Hornberger to Run for 8th Senate District
January 25, 2021
CHESTERFIELD, MI - State Representative Pamela Hornberger (R-Chesterfield Twp.) today announced her candidacy for the vacant 8th state senate district. Hornberger currently serves as the state rep. for the 32nd House district and was recently elected by her colleagues as Speaker Pro-Tempore for the 2021-22 session. Drawing on her experience on the L’Anse Creuse school board, her time as a teacher, and the warrior she has been as a state representative, Hornberger said she is well qualified to be the next state senator of the 8th District.
Hornberger is a lifelong Macomb County resident. As a child, she spent countless hours at the small business her parents started, Metrics Unlimited. She attended Michigan State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree then went on to receive a teaching certificate from Wayne State University and a master’s degree in education administration from Saginaw Valley State University. “As Chair of the Education Committee, I spend my days fighting for accountability in our schools and a high-quality education for every Michigan child. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I know the value of every taxpayer dollar and fight to make sure that it is spent responsibly. As the daughter of small business owners, I know what hard work looks like” Hornberger said.
Representing the citizens of Macomb and St. Clair counties in the Legislature, Hornberger has been a conservative advocate for parents and students, seniors and business owners. She championed Michigan’s “Return to Learn” program which allowed students to return to school safely during the pandemic, she supported reforms to Michigan’s highest-in-the-nation auto no-fault insurance laws, and she railed against Michigan’s failed policies that kept seniors in nursing homes during the pandemic. “COVID-19 has decimated our economy. Continued forced government closures have left thousands of Michiganders unable to work and provide for their families. Macomb needs an ally in the senate that will fight against overreaching government policies such as these.”
“It has been an honor serving the residents of Macomb and St. Clair counties in Lansing, and I look forward to continuing to work hard for the community. I love Macomb and know that my track record as a fierce advocate for children and a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars is what Macomb residents need” Hornberger continued.
Hornberger is already lining up support around the district including an endorsement from former Senator Jack Brandenburg. “Pamela Hornberger has been a tough, solid conservative with the record to prove it. I would love to see her as our next state senator” he said.
Prior to being elected to the legislature, Hornberger was a teacher in the East China School District and served on the L’Anse Creuse Board of Education.
The 8th Senate seat became vacant when former Senator Peter Lucido was elected as Macomb County Prosecutor in November 2020.
